I Walk, Therefore I Go is an exceptional book by author Marjan Bradeško, who unhesitatingly joins the ranks of exceptional names in Slovenian mountaineering literature, such as Julius Kugy, France Avčin, Marijan Lipovšek and Tine Mihelič. In many aspects, it may even surpass their exceptional narrative, as Bradeško stands out as an excellent stylist who knows how to masterfully convey his thoughts and feelings to the reader (from the foreword by Andrej Mašera).
With a refined sense of words, Marjan Bradeško creates images and evokes feelings in readers that irresistibly invite them to nature and the mountains. Even though the book is fiction, readers will find enough inspiration in it to discover beautiful places in the mountains and beyond. In thirty-two (32) stories, the author describes his journeys from the karst bare areas of Slovenian Istria to Triglav, from the dark ravines of the Julian Alps foothills to the Haloze hills. He lingers among the local Polhov hills, but also invites the reader across the border, to the Western Julian Alps and the Giljske Alps. In between, he adds impressions from hikes among the lavender fields in Provence or among the lakes in the Pyrenees, and at the end he sets off on several multi-day hikes along the Slovenian Mountain Trail. Through Bradešek's descriptions, the scent of early spring wafts through, the reader feels the glow of white rocks in the hot summer, retreats from winter storms, waits fearfully for a bear where there is none, or laughs at interesting incidents, such as rescuing a dog from the frozen Velika Dnina or looking at a mountain girl in Beli potok.
With a vocabulary that seems endless, the author skillfully chooses the most appropriate words to express his deep feelings and thoughts. Reading the book leads to a direct feeling of ardent affection for the mountains, which overflows into pure love. Each description of Bradeško brings nature to life, constantly reminding the reader of the beauty of the mountain world (from the foreword by Andrej Mašera).
In the book, we relive moments when the author stops breathing and merges with nature during a mountain hike, for example when he listens to the icy song of the mountain on Ratitovec. With his masterful description of the atmosphere, Bradeško conveys to the reader an eerie and otherworldly experience, which is expressed through the song of the frozen landscape. Bradeško's ability to convey the silence and subtlety of nature is exceptional, allowing the reader to perceive the mountain world in a completely new way.
Marjan Bradeško , also the author of two travel guides and two business books, shares his love of the mountains with readers in the book I Walk, Therefore I Go. His writing invites them to approach mountain peaks with respect and prudence, and take away memories that will give them strength in their everyday lives. This book undoubtedly represents an exceptional addition to Slovenian mountaineering literature and reveals the author's deep connection with the mountain world.
